Compost Interns - starts at the end of July
Internships are available in 3 month, and 6 month positions. Interns will work with the Farm Coordinator at the High School for Public Service Youth Farm, to manage and build composting systems. Interns will learn about the biological, chemical and physical processes that decompose food scraps and yard waste into black gold. Interns must be able to work 2 hours per week, and be able to lift 40lbs. 
  • Hours: minimum 2 hours per week
  • Time: Depending on your schedule
  • Commitment: 12 weeks, start date variable.

Chicken Apprenticeship Program - starts at the end of July
The BK farmyards Chicken Apprenticeship is designed to teach the basics of raising hens in the city. The Apprenticeship runs for 3 months, and can be extended for additional months. Apprentices spend about 4 hours per week in the Imani Garden, between workshops, working with the hens and helping with the CSA. The Apprenticeship includes hands on leaning with Bee Ayer , independent work with the hens, independent readings and explorations, and field trips.   • Hours: minimum 4 hours per week
  •  Time: Thursdays 5:30-7pm,  plus an additional 2 hours to be scheduled around your schedule.
  • Commitment: 15 weeks

Backyard Apprenticeship Program
Learn all the tools you need to start your own backyard enterprise for future growing seasons! Participants will work with Stacey to learn business planning, crop planning, contracts, and creation of CSA markets. Details are online to find out more about the program and how you can apply.

We are now accepting applications for Spring Chicken Apprentices! Applications are due on April 5th. The Apprenticeship will run April 14th through mid July, with meetings every Thursday from 5:30-7pm. 

Farm Apprenticeship Program
Working closely with the bk farmyards Farm Manager, apprentices will learn the ins and outs of running an urban farm, including daily farm work and farm planning and evaluation. Apprentices choose to focus on either the Farm, Market or CSA.  Farm apprentices work at the brand new, 1‐acre farm at the High School for Public Service in Crown Heights.  Farm work including planting, weeding, trellising, pruning, harvesting, and working with youth and volunteers. Market & CSA Apprentices assist the Farm Manager in organizing our CSA & Farmers Market, including assisting with distribution, outreach and planning
  • Hours: minimum of 10 hours per week
  • Time: Wednesdays 9-4pm, Thursdays 10-3pm
  •  Commitment: end of April through October. Shorter apprenticeship available for special circumstances. 
Market & Farm Share Internships

The Market and Farm Share Internships are designed to teach the basics of direct marketing of produce in an urban environment. Interns work closely with the Youth Farm Farm Manager to operate the weekly Farmers Market and CSA. Farm Share Interns and Market Interns will work closely together, and both assist with managing the weekly farmers market Wednesdays from 1-7pm.
  •  Hours: 8-10 hours a week
  •  Time: Wednesdays from 1-7pm
  • Commitment: May through October, 3 month Internship available for special circumstances.
